Bringing Brand Identity to Life with the Hiruka Font

I was staring at a blank brand board one morning, sipping my coffee and trying to figure out how to capture the essence of a small handmade soap shop. The client wanted something warm, approachable, and a little bit whimsical. That’s when I first opened up the Hiruka font from Script Amp. It wasn’t just any font—it had that perfect blend of boldness and simplicity that made me sit up straight.

Hiruka is a handwritten brush font with a twist. It feels like it was drawn with a real brush, but there's an elegance in its strokes that makes it feel intentional rather than messy. The letterforms are fluid yet structured, which gives it a unique personality that can be both playful and professional depending on the context.

I started by testing it on a logo draft. The name of the shop was “Bloom & Co.”, and I wanted something that felt organic and fresh. When I placed Hiruka over the name, it instantly gave it a sense of handcrafted charm. It didn’t feel too formal, but it still had that polished edge needed for branding materials.

The next step was applying it to packaging mockups. I used it for product labels, and it looked incredible on glass jars and paper wraps. The soft curves of the letters paired well with the natural textures of the packaging materials. It wasn’t overwhelming, but it added that personal touch that customers could immediately connect with.

I also experimented with using it in social media graphics. For Instagram posts promoting new products, I layered Hiruka over a background image of blooming flowers. It worked perfectly—subtle enough not to distract from the visuals, but strong enough to draw attention to the text.

One thing I noticed early on was how well it balanced readability and style. Even though it’s a script font, it doesn’t sacrifice legibility. This is crucial for brand identity because you want your audience to read the message without strain. I tested it on business cards and found that even at smaller sizes, the characters remained clear and distinct.

For website headers, I paired Hiruka with a clean sans serif font. The contrast between the two was striking. The bold, expressive Hiruka took center stage for headlines, while the sans serif handled supporting text. It created a visual hierarchy that guided the viewer’s eye naturally through the content.

When working on printed marketing materials, I made sure to check the font’s file formats and commercial licensing. Since the client planned to use it across multiple platforms—from digital ads to physical signage—I needed a font that would scale well and maintain quality in all formats. Hiruka delivered on that front, and the multilingual support was a bonus for future expansion.

I also explored font pairing options. Using Hiruka as a display font, I paired it with a serif font for body copy in editorial design. The combination felt classic yet modern, and it brought a nice balance to the overall look. It wasn’t too much to handle, but it did add that creative flair that set the brand apart.

There were moments where I considered using it for longer-form text, but I quickly realized it was more effective as a headline or accent font. Its character is best showcased in short bursts, making it ideal for logos, taglines, and call-to-action buttons.

In the final brand materials, I used Hiruka consistently across all touchpoints. From the shop sign to the homepage hero section, it helped create a unified visual language that reflected the brand’s personality. Customers responded positively to the font’s warmth and uniqueness, and it played a big role in making the brand feel more personal and trustworthy.

If you're considering using Hiruka for a project, I recommend testing it in different contexts before committing to a full brand system. Try it out on mockups, see how it looks at various sizes, and ensure it works well with other fonts in your palette. It’s a versatile tool that can elevate your designs if used thoughtfully.

Whether you’re designing for a boutique, café, skincare brand, or creative studio, Hiruka offers a fresh perspective on typography. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about feeling right. And that’s what makes it such a valuable addition to any designer’s toolkit.
